Suzuki SX4 WRC is a small car with all the problems associated with a small car: tight packaging, little options for efficient weight distribution and relatively nervous behaviour. On top of that, car was under-developed and suffered from lack of direction and stability within the team.
On paper, SX4 doesn't look that bad. If compared to ultra-successful Citroen Xsara, all outer dimensions are almost identical between the two cars. Of course, Xsara was patiently developed over several years by one of the finest rally engineers ever while SX4 was somewhat more a rushed job.
At one stage, Michel Nandan was involved with the design of SX4 but he soon left the team, apparently having very little, if any impact on the overall design.
