Teams like Lancia or Toyota worked very long and very hard to achieve spectacular success and cult status. Peugeot did rallies from dawn of the WRC but is best remembered for two lightning flash successes, those of 205T16 and 206WRC. Seemingly from nowhere came these two cars, legends of their own respective eras and won practically everything there was to be won. In the former case Peugeot's involvement lasted two and half years and twice as long in the latter.

After Group B was banned, Peugeot withdrew from WRC and concentrated on rally raids only to gradually return in small scale. From mid-1990's Peugeot began to build serious rally effort, first with 306 in F2 until debuting the 206WRC in 1999 Tour de Corse. From then on it is history. Three consecutive manufacturers titles followed and a like phoenix rising from the ashes, Peugeot recaptured the glory as if they never even had lost it.
