Having successfully competed several years in Junior WRC with Ignis and later Swift Super 1600 cars, Suzuki unveiled their World Rally Car early in 2007, starting on a road that would lead them to debut the new SX4 WRC in Tour de Corse 2007. Before debut, Suzuki had opened a special web site to advertise their efforts and periodically published articles, photos and videos of their development process. This created a much publicity for the team, especially as it had been a while since a new manufacturer joined the WRC last time.
It was not a surprise that car was unreliable at the start, so had many other rally cars before it been as well. However, when there were various senior management changes (including departure of Michel Nandan), fans begun to worry. Piled on top of the management changes, news about Suzuki's lack of testing began to circulate which created some degree of pessimism towards team being able to cure the unreliability of the car.
Suzuki enjoyed competition at the top level of the WRC only one season before pulling out, officially due to financial crisis of 2008 but - in all likelihood - as much due to lack of results.
