Paddon drove very well first two days and was holding second overall between two main team Volkswagens. When Latvala crashed, he inherited the lead and successfully defended it amidst foggy conditions against Ogier's determined charge.

Ogier had to sweep and was losing time while doing that. Team mate Latvala had better road position and held lead until his crash, which opened chance of overall win if Ogier could overhaul Paddon. He tried but could not.

Both Fords were completely lost. Ostberg had more experience and was able to salvage fifth overall while first timer Camilli was happy just to reach finish.
