When one is fighting, certain amount of risk is involved. Ogier won the extremely tight fight for a win and he was willing to take risks, as seen here.

Latvala dropped tactically behind Loeb for final leg, leaving him trailing overnight leader Ogier for 30 seconds. He clawed all of it back, went to lead by 0,5 seconds but lost it on final stage.

Loeb led initially but seemed reluctant to take lead for final day. He slowed down for tactical reasons, forcing Latvala to decide whether to follow the suit.
