Loeb bided his time and allowed others to try out the new roads first. When he was sure that running first would not be a problem, he charged to lead and scored his 57th win.
Even though Ogier finished only fourth after puncture cost him the lead, he led for two thirds of the rally and showed impressive speed altogether.
Hirvonen had similar strategy as Loeb but his attack was blunted by a puncture on final day and he had to settle for third behind Petter Solberg in a private C4.
