After two years of trying to win at home, Volkswagen finally achieved that and not only the win but complete podium lockout. Ogier led almost throughout the rally with Latvala snapping close at his heels while Mikkelsen chose more cautious approach.
Hyundai could not repeat their surprise win from last year and realistically was never expected to, but their pace was better than previously. Both Sordo and Neuville posted some good stage times and were best after VW's without benefit of others' troubles.
With two young and inexperienced drivers, M-Sport Ford should be happy for occasional good stage time and the fact that both Evans (pictured) and Tanak reached the end without major mishaps.
Ostberg has never been very quick in tarmac, unlike team-mate Meeke. Yet, the story was again the same, Meeke started well, broke suspension when he went off and ended well behind Ostberg. A sad result for a team which once was so dominant in this rally.
