Ford themselves wrote that "to describe the Focus RS WRC 04 as a new car would be wrong". Yes, it is an evolution with intention to set right things that were left unfinished with the original, radical '03 Focus.
Weight distribution was close to ideal already in previous model but new one has ten kilos lighter bodyshell, weighing only 330 kg. And that has been achieved even without using the aluminium boot and bonnet so there is room for further improvement still. Other improvements concentrate mainly on the engine, again developed by Cosworth. Turbo is lighter and consequently has improved response plus developments that improve reliability of the engine, mainly centered around con rod and pistons.
