The challenger for Martin Holmes' World Rallying series enters the market. Published by same stable as Autocourse, famous racing annual, Rallycourse sets tough challenge. Contributors include editor Mike Greasley himself, Steve Fellows, Peter Newton, Jeremy Walton, Peter Foubister and Graham Robson. It shows that all writers are professional journalists though some have quite flamboyant style.
Overall, compared to World Rallying -series Rallycourse is bigger book with more color photos and besides pictures, bigger size also allows for more text and rally reports are second to none, especially if compared to Holmes' rather brief reports. As an added bonus, there are top-5 results from all special stages but entry list does not have entrant or competition number for the drivers, results are for top-10 with no class winners if outside top-10 nor is retirement list as comprehensive as in World Rallying.
Unfortunately, a lot of the pages are used up by advertisements which often makes reader to have a feeling of reading a magazine rather than a book. Also, there are lots of small details wrong, like Jochi Kleint is consistently misspelled as Klient, index has chapters in wrong order and so on. These can be forgiven as features of the first edition but where Rallycourse and World Rallying differ, one does wisely to believe the latter.
