Rallycourse 1985
decoration
Rallycourse goes through some considerable changes and, unfortunately, most are for worse. Content is slashed by removing two dozen pages, achieved by providing less general articles and even shorter rally reports than previously. Reports are now down to a just a single column of text with all other space reserved for pictures. Rally statistics (entries, results, stages etc) have been moved to an isolated location at the end of book.

On up-side, rally reports and related pictures are no longer grouped in two's, making it easier to comprehend the coverage. Entry lists also have competition numbers for a first time and there is short team-by-team analysis/report amongst rally statistics too.

There are many changes in contributors, writers including Mike Greasley, Nigel Fryatt, Martin Sharp, Hugh Bishop, Keith Oswin and David Williams. Photos are mainly by Reinhard Klein but also Jim Bamber and Hugh Bishop have contributed.

Timo Salonen: First Class Traveller

Mike Greasley's portrait of the surprise 1985 World Champion, tracing through illustrating examples of Timo's "1st Class" behaviour, talking in length about his time at Nissan, going back to his short contract with Fiat and even his early career before moving on to current work at Peugeot. And if you wonder about that 1st Class -badge, it is because Timo has never been one to compromise about luxury.

World Championship Review

Review of the 1985 season.

The Top Ten

Editor's opinion of who were the top ten drivers in 1985.

Attilio Bettega

Short appreciation of Attilio who died in an accident in Tour de Corse 1985.

John Davenport

One page article on Austin Rover Group's rally manager, the legendary John Davenport by Nigel Fryatt.

Technical Review

Martin Sharp writes first of the technical reviews, a feature which becomes standard article in the annual. Technical review article is very long which is understandable as 1985 was year when there was a lot of interesting developments going on with half-a-dozen manufacturers competing with or coming out with exciting Group B rally cars.
