1994 was Didier Auriol's year but as well it could have been Francois Delecour's year. Ford had finished strong second behind Toyota in previous season and Delecour had finished almost as strong second behind Juha Kankkunen. Either way, it was time that France got it's first World Champion, french drivers being second only to finns in number of WRC wins. Besides, after record-breaking but disappointing 1992 it was fitting that Auriol claimed the crown at last.
