Parc ferme
Area where competitors are required to park cars during over-night halts. Drivers or team members are allowed in parc ferme only to leave or pick up cars, no servicing is allowed.

Passive components
Components that retain their characteristics through-out the stage as opposed to active components.

Power stage
Introduced for 2011 season, Power stage is special stage broadcasted on live television and three fastest drivers get extra drivers' championship points. Stage is run in reverse order to increase the spectacle.

Propshaft
Name for shaft that is used to transfer power from engine at front to wheels at rear, either directly (in RWD cars) or via centre differential (in 4WD cars).

PWRC
Acronym for Production Car World Championship, a special category for drivers using production cars (Group N). Inaugural champion for 1987 was Alex Fiorio.

Puncture
A tyre gone flat. Tyre manufacturers had technology to allow cars run on flat tyres (Pirelli had EMI and Michelin ATS) but this has since been banned. See also mousse. Changing punctured tyre on stage takes around two minutes so if finish is close, driver may choose not to change it. Running on flat tyre destroys it completely, sometimes also damaging bodywork and wearing rim down.
