It was Peugeot's and Gronholm's year. Marcus' five wins underline the dominance that is apparent from championship standings too, after early season there was no real rival for the title.

In 2002, Petter Solberg grew from reckless youngster to a mature driver. He scored his first win and was on podium five times, as often as established stars Burns and Sainz. Also, his points scoring ability was second only to Gronholm.

Ford had best finishing record, losing only every fourth of their entries while Hyundai lost twice as many. It is interesting to note that reliability did not translate to championship success, Ford lost to Peugeot with clear margin while Hyundai was best of three minor teams.

One of the worst shocks was the total collapse of Mitsubishi. Team that had driver seriously in title hunt previous season managed only one (!) stage win all year. In opposite corner of the ring, Peugeot drivers won three out of five stages.

Yep, it is Marcus' show again. But it is interesting to note that even though Solberg was second in the championship and scored his maiden win, he led for only six stages. Whereas for example Martin was rally leader for fourteen stages.

Nothing new, Finland was fastest, Cyprus slowest and shortest while Safari was longest. It was also very tough, only one fourth of the starters making it all the way to finish. In stages New Zealand again used monstrous 59 km Parahi though in GB Resolfen was run in over 54 km form.
