Third and final evolution of the Lancer in old shape body was again a step ahead, this time bigger than previously. Team finally had decided to devote more resources to WRC programme and also had signed Tommi Makinen to drive for them.
Rear wing grew again and took a little different shape as well. Biggest developments were under skin as active differentials were installed on front and rear for the first time. In the engine bay, car had larger intercooler installed - giving it an advantage over competitors. At the same time, FIA reduced restrictor size to 34mm and this is claimed to favour Mitsubishi's long-stroke engine.
