Explanation for short competition use of preceding Evolution V can be found from the fact that Evolution VI is not much different. As usual, most apparent changes were aerodynamic including yet another front bumper with fixed light mountings moved to extreme sides and huge adjustable, double-decked rear wing.
Starting from Finland 2000, car underwent some changes in order to regain somewhat lost competitiveness. Front had new tubular subframe, differentials had internal changes and new mappings. New front bumper makes this version hard to distinguish from Evo6.5 which debuted in Monte Carlo 2001.
