Team- and championship leader Rovanpera started well and took early lead but wrecked the car in a surprise roll on Friday. After that, Evans (pictured) inherited the lead and kept Neuville at bay to score his second win in Finland. Katsuta took third and team boss Latvala fifth in guest apperance with older spec Yaris. Hyundai also lost their Finnish driver as Lappi careened into trees on SS5. By this point, Neuville (pictured) was already ahead of him and when Kalle went off, Thierry tried everything he knew to catch leading Evans but in vain as deep ruts and nervous rear hampered him. Suninen fought with Katsuta but eventually lost that battle by few seconds. Click picture to see larger version in a pop-up window
Pierre-Louis Loubet

Third top driver to retire on first day was Tanak whose engine gave up after big hit on compression on SS3. On same stage, Loubet (pictured) hit a rock and completely destroyed left rear suspension. He re-started but with so much penalty that he eventually finished 45th (out of 49 finishers). Click picture to see larger version in a pop-up window
