Neuville was initially slower than team-mate Fourmaux but gained positions after Fourmaux had an off and puncture on SS8, another position after Solberg gets puncture on SS15 and lead when Ogier suffers puncture on penultimate stage.

Solberg held lead on two occasions but lost it to a puncture on SS15. His spirited driving and punctures for both Ogier and Pajari on penultimate stage meant that Oliver finished second overall, ahead of title rival Evans.

M-Sport Fords were plagued with problems. Armstrong had powersteering failure on second day and rolled out on SS15, Sesks suffered puncture on SS10 and McErlean (pictured) slid off in soaked and very slippery Lousada SSS. He rejoined and finished 18th overall.
