First major change of format in years, including 80 more pages, a lot more color photographs both in a special section as well as elsewhere in the book, printed on glossy paper. Also in the book is the final part of the pre-1978 WRC results, bringing conclusion to series begun in two earlier books.
Each rally covered has extended information about entrants, including name of entrant for a first time. Also is included almost complete route details for each rally, only some cancelled stages are missing. World class rally drivers have more extensive result information, including all major entries to rallies instead of only those which led to success.
Text is by Martin Holmes and photographs by Hugh Bishop or Holmes himself.

Thoughts of David Sutton
In interview in a narrative style with David Sutton. Starting from his earliest experiences before he even knew what rallying was about, touching briefly his own experience as a driver but soon moving to management duties which he started by running a garages and teams for others. Then comes the story of his own company and its various programmes of which Ari Vatanen's 1981 championship campaign is the most famous. Finally there is the switch from running Fords to Audis in 1982 and also David's views about drivers and the new Appendix J rules.
Year of the Prototype
One of the results from the new, tighter homologation rules of overhauled Appendix J for 1982 was the prototype. Manufacturers had to evaluate their design better before finalising it and prototypes were a popular way to do this. Article presents various prototypes, from those that never saw action like Ford's Escort RS1700T or two-engined Volkswagen Scirocco to more familiar such as short Audi quattro Sport or Renault 5 Turbo.
Adam Opel AG - Sports Relations
Holmes covers yet another manufacturer competition department though it would appear that Opel did not give him much support for the article. Besides covering Opel Ascona 400 and their 1982 campaign, also local importer teams or tuners like italian Conrero or french Simon Racing are mentioned.
