Latvala was left alone to defend Ford's honours when Hirvonen rolled out of the rally. Against all expectations, Jari-Matti took and kep the lead, claiming his first home win.

Equally unexpectedly it was Sebastier Ogier who offered closest challenge to Latvala. Ogier had been promoted to works team for this rally and proved his worth immediately.

Finnish rally drivers have a tradition to celebrate their 50th birthday by contesting once more. This year it was Juha Kankkunen who finished 8th overall.
